HOUSING

Through Racine Village, The Regenerator, and our housing vision, Go Green will build or rehab nearly 500 housing units over the next five years. This mix of homes for purchase, affordable and market rate rentals, and supportive housing will establish a vibrant mixture of residents across income levels and life stages— including young families, entrepreneurs, artists, and returning citizens— all engaging in strengthening the neighborhood’s social fabric.

WORKFORCE

Through The Regenerator’s training programs, we will expand residents’ economic opportunities while preparing the trained workforce needed to drive Go Green’s long term vision, including our housing vision.

CREATIVE PLACEMAKING

We will contribute to neighborhood beautification, create opportunities for local artists, and reclaim the closed Racine CTA station as an arts and cultural homebase.

NEIGHBORHOOD AMENITIES

The developments will create an amenity-rich intersection: where instead of running one errand and leaving, you can catch up with a friend over lunch at Majani Englewood, attend a creative upcycling class at The Regenerator, pick-up a prescription, spend a few hours catching up on work at the Englewood Business Incubator co-working space before meeting your partner for dinner at Pazzo’s, and pick up some groceries at the Fresh Market before heading home.

PUBLIC SAFETY AND SOCIAL FABRIC

Go Green’s developments will increase foot traffic and spur public and private beautification efforts. Through a people-centered approach to development that is focused not only on building capital assets but, more importantly, on rebuilding lives, we will stabilize our neighborhood and our community, thereby reducing recidivism and crime and positively affecting public safety. Community workshops and advocacy campaigns led by the Fresh Market and The Regenerator will further strengthen local connectivity.

BUSINESSES

The businesses established in our three developments will have an immediate impact by creating 100 jobs and helping to localize spending in the neighborhood. Each of Go Green’s three developments will also spur new business creation. The Englewood Business Incubator will provide general start-up support and the Fresh Market and The Regenerator’s Green Hub will provide targeted, specialized guidance for food and green entrepreneurs.

TRANSIT AND STREETSCAPE

Go Green team is in active discussions with the City about near term projects to improve walkability and pedestrian safety at 63rd & Racine, with a long term goal of major transit improvements – including the reopening of the Racine Green Line station— that will catalyze further development by increasing foot traffic and connections to opportunities across Chicago.
